The Mendota Sweet Corn Festival is a four-day summer festival in downtown Mendota, Illinois, famous for serving more than 50 tons of free hot buttered sweet corn cooked with a vintage steam engine. The 79th annual festival runs August 6–9, 2026, drawing 40,000+ visitors for carnival rides, live entertainment, a Queen Pageant, a beer garden, a crafts market with 200+ dealers, and a mile-long Grand Parade.
When is the Sweet Corn Festival?
Thursday, August 6 through Sunday, August 9, 2026. The famous free sweet corn is traditionally served Sunday from about 2 PM at Illinois Avenue & Jefferson Street; come early, the line is part of the tradition.
Where is it?
Downtown Mendota, Illinois, at the crossing of I-39 and US-34, about 100 miles southwest of Chicago. Whether you spell it sweet corn festival or sweetcorn festival, the corn is the same: hot, buttered, and free.
